Imperial Beach Pier Outdoor Murals
Client: Port of San Diego
Location: Imperial Beach, CA
December 2020
We’ve been lucky to work with the Port of San Diego on multiple projects. When they brought us on to do the Imperial Beach Pier, we were ecstatic. Painting on the water? Yes, please! The project called for a revitalization of the pier, something that had been needed for quite some time. The design process was extensive and we went through multiple rounds of revisions to create the perfect series of murals and signage to line the 1,491 feet of wooden planks.
Our main plan of attack for the pier was to beautify the lifeguard tower, restrooms, and side of the Tin Fish restaurant located at the very end. We used vintage colors to nod to the history of the surf culture in Imperial Beach. We also included various surfboards and iconic silhouettes to create visual interest. On the largest mural, located on the side of the Tin Fish, we included the coordinates. Believe it or not, it is the most south-westerly point of the United States! It makes for a fun photo backdrop and you most certainly need to check it out if you’re in the area (and maybe grab some seafood too).
