Sunny Grove Beer

Client: SUnny Grove Beer

This mural for local (to me) brewery on the outskirts of San Diego, Sunny Grove Beer, was a quick and colorful job that was a ton of fun to install.

Though it was a brand new brewery at the time, this actually wasn’t my first mural for these clients. Owned by a husband and wife team, I was first connected to them via a mural I did for The Melt in the summer of 2021. San Diego doesn’t have a big brewery scene (yet!!!), so after a beautifully done renovation on the space, the owners wanted a bright, fun, and colorful mural to create a welcoming and SUNNY atmosphere.

These were the parameters: make it big, incorporate hops into the design, create some sort of “grove,” add in a sun, and use a LOT of color. With these guidelines, I got to mocking up two different designs that used a warm color palette - reds, oranges, browns, yellows - that drew on the colors of everything that goes into making beer, and used the natural habitat of Santee as a backdrop.

Once I presented the initial concept, the clients’ main feedback was “more color!,” and after one or two small revisions we got the green light to get to work. I hired three local San Diego girls to help me install this mural, and between the four of us we we wrapped up the project just two days (and a couple of pints;)) later. The mural added so much life to the brewery walls, and I love how it turned out!

Heading to San Diego? Check out the cute town of Santee, grab a beer at sunny grove and tag me @pandrdesignco. Cheers!
