Outdoor Mural at Cesar Chavez Park

Client: Port of San Diego
Location: San Diego, CA
July 2020

When the Port of San Diego reached out to Pandr to create a mural in Cesar Chavez Park, we were stoked. Cesar Chavez Park is a place where people come to play, relax, and have a good time. There’s a jungle gym for kids, always a crowd of soccer players, and a gorgeous view of the water and the Coronado bridge. Though a well-loved spot, however, it was lacking an identity. Our job was to install a mural that encapsulated the playful, fun, familial mood of the park.

The wall we were asked to paint was cinder block, long, and facing outwards toward the park and fields. Aka, everyone looked at it, all the time. It was a beige eye sore that needed a major face-lift! The Port chose the colors we used - gender neutral shades - and gave us the greenlight to get started. This mural was installed during the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020, so we were really inspired to give the park a sense of inclusion and community. We threw up waves in blue and orange (complementary colors), and then overlaid the background with black and white block letters. After two, ten hours days the project was complete. Head to Cesar Chavez Park to see the wall yourself (and keep an eye out for more Pandr work around the area)!
