Wall Mural Ideas to Brighten Your Home Office

Let’s talk about your workspace.
Since 2020, there has been a huge cultural shift when it comes to the work week. For a while, many of us who aren’t essential workers (thank you essential workers!!!) went from driving to and from an office five days a week, to ditching the commute, filling our closets with loungewear, and working from the comfort of our homes.
For many, this flexibility - not to mention the hours of commuting time you got back- was a welcome change. We created makeshift work spaces, and tried our best to get back into a morning routine. It was new, and we didn’t know how long work from home life would really last.
But after 2+ years of WFH, many of y’all are probably thinking WTF as you look around at the four walls you’ve been slaving away in for *years* now (we can’t believe it’s been *years* since the world shutdown, now, either, but that’s a topic for a different day).
If you’re like anything like us, your surroundings have a big impact on your ability to focus, get inspired, and feel productive and successful - no matter what your job may be.
And, if you’re anything like us, staring at the same white walls and old band posters from college got real old, real fast.
Have you been walking into your home office and feeling “blah” and uninspired lately? If so, it’s time to freshen things up a bit.
We’ve up-leveled our workspace (a few times, in fact), and can say with confidence that a new aesthetic puts a whole new pep in your work-space step!
Check out some of our favorite ways to add a dose of inspiration to your WFH setup, below.
Three Easy Ways to Brighten your Space with Paint
Abstract shapes
Abstract shapes are all the rage right now, and so easy to put up (and take down). They can be used to add a pop of color to the walls, frame your desk or your computer monitor, draw the eye to the light, and of course add a bit of personality to the space. All you need is some tape, your paint brush, and some chalk!
Pro tip: If you’re in a smaller space that doesn’t get a ton of light, choose a lighter, more muted color to reflect the light that hits it back into the room. If your space is feeling cavernous, choose something a little bit darker to absorb some of the light and make things feel a little bit cozier.
Words of inspiration
Sometimes, you just need your favorite quote to get you through that 3pm slump. We love putting a positive word or a phrase in big letters across a wall. It’s so easy to get feel overwhelmed or down during a busy work day, why not have something that sparks joy permanently cheering you on?!
Pro tip: Lots of Frog Tape and chalk are your best friends when it comes to painting letters. Sketch out your words first, and then use Frog Tape and a level to finesse the shapes before you add paint. Check out our Mural Supply List for our favorite tools to paint words with!
Accent Wall
Want to give your home office a face lift, but still keep it neutral enough not to get comments from co-workers on Zoom? Try an accent wall. Choose a color that gets you in the work “zone,” whatever that means for you, and take it floor to ceiling on just one of your four walls. This is an especially good design for small offices, where you might want to add color but worry that painting the entire room will make it feels claustrophobic. The end result is a nice dose of color while still maintaining a feeling of fresh space!
Pro tip: Try using tape to get a color blocking technique - where the bottom half of a wall is a different color than the top half. You could also go 3/4 of the way up with one color while the remaining top stays white. Have fun with it!
